Though most of the celebrities are with big and round eyes, you can still notice that some of the Asian celebrities having small and Asian eyes are exceptionally popular. The most famous one can be Lucy Liu. Lucy Liu has the very common Asian eyes which are called by Chinese as “Phoenix Eye”. The other characteristic of the “Phoenix Eye” is the single layer of eye lid.

If you have Asian eyes, the biggest problem to you can be “tired eyes”. As there is no layer formed by the double lid, your eyes and face look tired. Let us now begin the Asian Eye Makeup Tutorial!

Eye Shadow

Use three different colors in the same color system (e.g. silvery, grey and dark grey or gold, brown and dark brown). You should pick a light color as the highlighter, mid-color as the base and the dark color for emphasis. First, apply the lightest eye shadow on the whole eyelid. Then apply a mid-color eye shadow onto the lower part of your eye lid. Apply the darkest color eye shadow on your eye lid on the part nearest your eye line. This gives your eyes layers and therefore your eyes do not look so tired.

You can smudge a bit more of darker eye shadow around the outer eye corner. Or, you can do so with the eye liner described later.

Eye line

Eye line is exceptionally important to eye makeup for Asian eyes. You can divide your eye line into two parts, from the inner corner to the outer corner and from the outer corner to the end. First you should be drawing your eye line gently enough and progressively. You can draw around 2mm each time, overlap the drawings, from outer corner to the inner corner. You can have the eye line end (outer eye corner) drawn upward to look more refreshing.

You should try to avoid the drawing of lower lash line. If you want to, drawing the whole lower lash line is outdated. You can try to draw from the outer eye corner and stop at around 1/3 long of your eye.

Make sure you draw the eye line as close as to your lash line. This helps to give a fuller feel. If you leave a space between your eye line and lash line, the eye proportion can be very strange.

Then use the eyeliner to draw the eye line again from the eye line end to the outer corner. This can emphasize the eye line effect.

Use a cotton bud to smudge in the same direction from eye corner to eye line eye.

Finally, smudge a little bit shinny eye shadow around the inner eye corner. Apply your black mascara also!

Asian Makeup Tips

Dark brown, dark grey and black are the safest colors for eye liner.

Smokey eye makeup is one of the best choices for Asian eye makeup.

Try not to use shinny eye shadow, use the matt ones.
